G. Carol Bomer

Carol Bomer is a native of Alberta, Canada, who lives in Asheville, NC, with her writer husband and two children. Bomer received a B.A. in Secondary Education in English and History, and after teaching for six years, she worked toward a Fine Arts degree in Iowa, Kansas, and North Carolina. Carol Bomer has worked professionally as a painter since 1976, and has shown nationally and internationally.

Carol Bomer's paintings challenge postmodern relativism in an ongoing series of media explorations combining layered collage of various papers, low relief, impasto, gold leaf, graphite, acrylics, wax, and varnishes. She manipulates the conceptual and spacial context of recognizable forms often appropriated from past Christian imagery or developed from biblical metaphor and narrative and places them on non-objective grounds. Her desire is that her paintings do not confuse the truth but rather point to "the mystery hidden for ages!" (I Cor. 2:77 and Col. 1)

Carol Bomer's hope is that her work will bring glory to God and show truth and love to man. She views her art as "a form of play rejoicing before the face of God" (Rookmaaker). Bomer signs her work SOLI DEO GLORIA - to God alone be the glory, which is also the name of her Asheville studio.
