Cornelis Monsma
Inspirational, expressionist art work by Dutch born painter Cornelis Monsma (now a resident of New Zealand).
The paintings of Cornelis Monsma are intended to portray our new life in Christ in color and composition. Monsma, who has already become a research topic in universities, aims to open the eyes of the people around him to the joy, peace and love that can only be found through Christ. His works of art, mainly large oil paintings mirror his personality and his own personal walk with God.
Over the past forty years, Monsma combines bold, vivid colors, which are composed into joyful, abundant, contemporary, expressionist art with a deep scriptural meaning and purpose. Monsma is able to take Scripture, and portray it visually, and in a way, which seems to capture the meaning of the verse and display it in fresh perspective.
Expressionism is an artistic style in which the artist seeks to depict not objective reality but rather the subjective emotions and responses that objects and events arouse in him. Monsma feels true Christian art is not a picture of religious divinity but rather an expression of the Christ presence from within. A living account of a new found freedom encased in dependency, liberty rooted in obedience.
Cornelis Monsma's work is instrumental in opening the eyes of his fellow human beings to a life of fullness, fulfillment and peace.
