Matthew 5:4 (Bible – New Testament)
Monsma’s Comments: I believe that the mourning meant here, is a deep felt sense of having missed the target after getting to know the Lord. After someone has become a follower of Christ, he may look back on his pre-conversion life as wasted life and time. As a consequence, he feels absolutely shattered in his spirit, which is expressed as shattered pieces at the bottom of the painting.
I believe this Christian is likely to build a fence – not allowing comfort because of their focus in self pity. When leaving a gap, he allows comforting to break through - showing his place in Christ’s redemptive work.
