Corinne Vonaesch, born and residing in Switzerland, is one of the most unique contemporary Christian artists of today. Her paintings are described as colorful and illuminated. The light seems to come out of the painting itself, due to the choice of colors and the design. Her personal style tends toward expressionism; but some of her works may even be seen as abstract.
Corinne Vonaesch’s paintings are mainly inspired by the surrounding world and by the inner representations of the artist. They are filled with people, faces and feelings. Her main source of inspiration is the Bible. Her most notable series is the gospel of John in 21 paintings. This series is called "couleurs d’évangiles". She also illustrated the creation related in Genesis. This series is called "les sept jours de la création".
“The spiritual dimension is part of a whole reflection concerning modern Christian iconography with a double challenge: first, to give religious imagery its place back in our pictorial society and in the church; second, to illuminate these biblical texts in a new and original way since the Bible has been illustrated many times during the centuries.“ Corinne Vonaesch
